three words launches: auckland and wellington

Three Words is going to be launched in Auckland on March 5 at the Audio Foundation, 6pm onwards, followed by a second launch in Wellington on March 12 at Meow on Edward Street, 3pm onwards, as part of the Writers Festival. Please help us celebrate!

in profile: coco solid

Coco Solid, aka Jessica Lee Hansell, is a Māori/Samoan/German musician, artist and writer from Auckland. Hansell is one half of Parallel Dance Ensemble with Danish producerRobin Hannibal. She is also a founding member of New Zealand noize collective Badd Energy. As a comic book writer and zine-maker, Hansell was the creator of the comic Hook Ups, which was turned into the cult cartoon series in 2013, and produced This Is Not A Comic with Pritika Lal from 2005 – 2008 and is to release her first full graphic novel through Pikitia Press.

Erin Fae is an artist and activist living in Auckland. She creates prints,
books, zines, mail art, sketches, and photographs for sale,
chance, and exhibition. Some of her projects have included:
Alphabet City, a community art space in Auckland devoted
to the printed and written word; The Press Cycle, a mobile
letterpress printing studio; and Mess of a Dreamer: A Taylor
Swift Fanzine. Erin has been involved with zines since the late
1990s and continues to self-publish. Erin also teaches print-,
zine- and book-related workshops.

Lucy Meyle is an artist and practice-led PhD student at AUT.

Often working collaboratively, her work includes publications and texts which are distributed for free,

Pritika Lal islives in Auckland. An interdisciplinary artist, her creative practice

spans a range of mediums, including comics, video, interactive

digital gadgets and sometimes clay. She works as a lecturer.

in profile: sophie mcmillan

Sophie McMillan is a painting, sculpture, photography and video artist who lives in Auckland. Her comics work (from about 1997 – 2002) includes the mini-comics Interlude Pie and Cigarette as well as stories for See-Saw, Foxy-Moron and Sheherezade.

Sophie is an Auckland-based artist and illustrator and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In 2008, she opened The High Seas, a shop and gallery with a focus on comic and illustration art. Sophie continues to be involved in the Auckland zine community.

in profile: susan rugg

Susan Rugg began making comics around age seven and is now a 30-something-year-old artist based in Auckland.

Her first published comic Slayer’s Game was released through indie comic company BlueScar Productions in 2005. Since then, she has released four more published comics through local conventions and other independent comic companies over the New Zealand's North Island and Australia. Susan also organises the Auckland branch of artist community Drawfest.

Zoë Colling lives in Auckland, is married and has two daughters. She works part-

time as a librarian and likes writing lists, The Armando Iannucci Shows, and

has been mucking around with autobio words and pictures for a couple of years. Her

submissions to Three Words are her first completed comics.
