Born in Te Aroha in 1951, Susan Te Kahurangi King started
drawing when she was a small child, but stopped in the late 1980s and only
started again in 2008 following interest from Dan Salmon who had begun to make
a film about her. It has only been in the past six or so years that anybody
outside Susan’s immediate circle started to see her work. Drawings done by
Susan in her early 20s, teens and even as young as seven were shown last year
in New York.
